Weddings at Clapton Country Club

Are you getting married at Clapton Country Club? I don’t add any travel charges for weddings I photograph there!

Clapton Country Club is one of the coolest urban wedding venues I know. It’s in the heart of East London and is great for brides and grooms looking for the perfect urban retreat. The building of the venue used to be a tram shed, and the industrial vibe has been preserved. It’s urban, yet glamorous, and that’s why couples love it. Clapton Country Club has got capacity for 140 seated wedding guests and up to 220 standing. The wedding venue offers great food and fine wines to match the unique environment.

The history of Clapton Country Club is fascinating. The owners of the venue, Hilary and Terence, struggled to find the right venue for their wedding back in 2015, so they decided to convert a section of the Tram Depot into a pop-up wedding venue. It was a great success - they loved the ambience and joy of their wedding day, so they continued to develop and roll out the venue for other couples to enjoy.

The Main Hall, the Decking, the Courtyard, The Opium Room, The Loft Studio and The Department of Life are the areas within the unique urban wedding venue, and each serves a different purpose. The Main Hall is the designated space for your wedding breakfast and the after party - plenty of space for a band set up and dancing. The Department of Life is a beautiful ceremony area. The Opium Room is set as a separate, enchanting area, a fusion of Edwardian Shanghai/Parisian, located at the back of the building. The Loft Studio is an optional extra to the main venue hire. It makes for a great bridal getting-ready space and is abundant with photo opportunities. The external decking provides shelter and an array of plants to create an oasis in an urban setting.

Photography at the Venue

Clapton Country Club was definitely created with photography in mind. That’s exactly what I thought when I photographed Sophie and Alex’s wedding there for the first time. I loved the charming, industrial and quaint vibe of the East London gem. Each area of the venue serves a tailored purpose to each part of your wedding day, and I suspect that the people who designed it knew at least a thing or two about photography.

The Loft Studio or the bridal getting-ready space is one of my favourite areas at Clapton Country Club. It is ideal for your make-up and hair preparation on your wedding day. It provides. There are two large windows that let in plenty of light and create a dramatic atmosphere within the space. Opportunities for creative compositions are also countless. Some of my favourite photos from Louise and Alexis’s wedding were captured exactly there. The sleeping area within the space is quite high up, and there is a ladder you climb up to get to it, which provides a unique perspective for some brilliant photographs.

The decking, which extends from the main building at Clapton Country Club, is another picturesque part of the beautiful wedding venue. The deck is constructed with iron wood planks taken from a canal lock, steel columns salvaged from the Tram Depot, a reclaimed industrial glass roof to provide shelter and an array of overflowing plants to create a small oasis in an urban setting. The classic neon sign Clapton Country Club is directly above the area, and the whole space provides gorgeous framing and lighting opportunities for your wedding photography.

The Department of Life is also an area within Clapton Country Club that was created with light, shadow and photography in mind - I’m sure! The beautiful wedding ceremony space is created from one of the original stables with original high wooden beamed eaves, plant life writhing against a backdrop of disenfranchised brickwork, 160-year-old parquet flooring and giant gym knotted rope lights. The paved road between the ceremony area and the Main Hall is ideal for your confetti photos after you tie the knot.

The Main Hall is your wedding breakfast area and is also so picturesque. There is space for up to three rows of decorated tables and a spiral staircase which leads to a viewing and lounging gallery. It provides a unique perspective of the entire space, and I love climbing up there to snap photos during the meal. It’s ideal for your speeches too, and a huge window lets plenty of light which illuminates the top table and works to create some beautiful, dramatic photographs.

Clapton Country Club is easily one of my all-time favourite wedding venues, and I cherish every opportunity I get to photograph there. If you are looking for a photographer who knows and loves Clapton Country Club, please get in touch, I’d love to hear from you!
